Osho’s Dynamic Meditation
First, you will need to find a place where you can express yourself freely, and the neighbors won’t call the police. Once you have done that, and warned all your room mates, have a go at the Dynamic Meditation. It takes about an hour and is best done barefoot.
The stages of the meditation are as follows:
- Chaotic Breathing (10 minutes)
Breathe chaotically through the nose, deeply and rapidly, without any rhythm or pattern. Focus on exhalation and let the body take care of inhalation. This energizes the body and breaks old, ingrained patterns in the mind.
- Catharsis (10 minutes)
Let go of all emotions and expressions. Scream, shout, cry, jump, dance, laugh—whatever feels natural. This allows for the release of repressed emotions and psychological burdens, leading to emotional cleansing.
- Mantra Chanting (10 minutes)
With arms raised, jump up and down while shouting the mantra “Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!” as deeply as possible. Each time you land, let the sound hammer deep into the pelvis. This stage moves energy upwards and invigorates the body.
- Stillness (15 minutes)
Stop suddenly and freeze in whatever position you are in. Do not move at all. This brings about a deep sense of stillness and awareness, allowing the energy to flow freely through the body.
- Celebration (15 minutes)
Celebrate through dance and music, expressing whatever is there. This stage integrates the experience and carries the sense of aliveness throughout the day.
Below is the musical soundtrack to the meditation. Each stage is marked by a gong.
